Passing of Mahopac VFD's Honorary Chief, JOHN ORTIZ

Our sincere condolences go out to the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department on the death of its Life Member and Honorary Chief, John Ortiz, who passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026. John celebrated 50 yrs of service in the Mahopac VFD and proudly displays his plaque in the photo.

“Johnny O” was a Golden Life Member of the Putnam County VFA, as well, having joined our Association in 1976. He was recognized for 50 years of service at our annual Convention meeting this past July, though was unable to attend. In addition to being a member of our association, John was also a member of the Hudson Valley VFA and the Putnam-Northern Westchester Fire Police Association.
