Dear Member,
We have big news: the volunteer firefighter tax credit bill has passed both houses of the New York State Legislature. This is a major victory for every man and woman who has ever answered a call — and it belongs to you.

We all know what it costs to serve. Equipment, training, rising gas prices, and time away from family all come with real costs that volunteers often absorb themselves. This tax credit provides direct, personal relief and recognizes the commitment volunteer firefighters make to their communities every day.

FASNY was also successful in securing important changes to the nominal compensation legislation, making the bill more equitable and transparent for volunteer firefighters. We appreciate the sponsors' willingness to work with us and address our concerns. Their partnership helped move this legislation forward as an actionable bill, representing another meaningful step in advancing FASNY's 14-Point Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment and Retention Plan.

Now the tax credit bill is awaiting delivery to Governor Hochul's desk — and we need your voice.

Governor Hochul has been a friend to the volunteer fire service throughout her career. She understands the vital role volunteer firefighters play in protecting communities across New York. We are confident she will recognize the importance of this legislation, but she needs to hear directly from the people it will impact most.
